Hello viewers. Thought I would test this out. Write a longer post and see what happens...
Well, I have now created my blog. With colours that my boyfriend would disapprove of because they are dark and emo colours. Once I can work out how to get a cool image on here somewhere without it breaking, I'll probably do that instead. I rather like the black-pink title though. That looks le awesome.
My mother has a life plan for me. It includes trying to weasel my way into the rabbit through a rubbish job; getting work experience at a publishing house over the summer; and having a blog in which to write mostly film but also occasionally book reviews.
Little introduction to the life of me: I am doing a degree in Literature at Essex Uni. (Am I studying the correct thing, one begins to wonder, when given the choice of writing film or book reviews I'd much rather do film as my DVD collection is rathre bringing down my shelves whereas my book collection is somewhat collecting dust in my old bedroom and my university reading list is... mostly untouched.) I may be changing my degree to Philosophy and Literature for a few reasons: 1) I am not enjoying my degree at current. The books we are studying are boring and uninspiring (as are the lessons.) 2) I took philosophy (and politics) as my free modules and philosophy is the only subject I am actually enjoying studying. 3) I just got a first in philosophy, my first of the year. So far I have been getting 2:2s. Why not do something you're good at if you enjoy it too?
Favourite films include:
Donnie Darko
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The Star Wars Trilogy
When Harry Met Sally
There are probably more, as always. My favourite genres are romance, sci-fi/fantasy, and "world cinema" (though surely that isn't actually a genre?); pretty much the only films I go to the cinema to watch are fantasies. Most rom-coms shown at the cinema are American slap-stick, the most detestible style of comedy in my opinion.
Best film of 2007... Was 300 out last year? If so, that. (But a personal favourite: Harry Potter 5! I did say it was a personal favourite.)
Favourite authors of my childhood were Catherine Fisher, Margaret Mahy, Philip Pullman and Susan Cooper, obviously. Favourite authors now... I suppose Margaret Atwood. I now own four books by her, and have read one of them, with every intention to read the others. Oryx and Crake is my favourite book because it is the one I have most recently read and was absolutely fantastic. There's your recommendation for the day. Read Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.
I suppose I had better get down to finding my favourite films (and least favourite films) on my shelf and review them. This blog is not going to be for new films out at the cinema, as most of them are rubbish and I don't have the time or the money to watch films I don't like. Occasionally you the imaginary reader will be shocked to see a current film reviewed here, but mostly this blog shall contain reviews of my DVD shelf. (Which looked much more impressive at home, when it was on several smaller shelves.)
For now, I shall leave, for breakfast and shoe shopping call me from the distance.
x
